Country Doctor

Thomas Lilti (2016)

Irreplaceable

In the Spring of 2015, François Cluzet and the entire cast and crew of the film Country Doctor (Médecin de campagne) made Chaussy their home for over eight weeks. Attracted by its traditional town square, on which he would build a market set, director Thomas Lilti chose this pretty little village in Vexin as the back-drop for the bulk of his film. It was initially to be entitled Irremplaçable (Irreplaceable), like the film's country doctor Jean-Pierre Werner, loved by all locals for his work in the community, linking generations and fighting against the solitude and isolation of his patients. A fake grocery store was set up in the square and the real fruit and vegetables laid out in the shop window caused several passing motorists to stop, thinking that the store was real. The café, village hall and practically the entire village and its surrounds became a film set. To thank locals for their hospitality, Thomas Lilti returned a year later to present his film, which was screened in the village hall.

Family Rock

José Pinheiro's 1982 film Family Rock, starring Christophe Malavoy, was initially entitled Les espadrilles qui prennent l’eau (Shoes taking on water) a strange expression, seeming to herald the deluge. The plot centres around a couple and their two children who leave everything behind to join the carnival. They travel through France from village to village. Their journey takes them to Chaussy town square, once more under the spotlight.
